Rishikesh Trip with Friends in 2-3 Days: Guide to Rafting, Aarti, Cafés and Easy One-Way Cab Rides

Every friend group has the same Rishikesh argument. One person wants to jump off a bridge, another wants to sit by the Ganga and do nothing, and a third has saved forty café reels.

Best Time to Visit Rishikesh in 2026-27

October–November and February–April gives the best mix of weather and open activities. December and January are cold, with icy water. April to June is hot, though the river feels great. Rafting runs from 15 September to 30 June and stops during the July to mid-September monsoon.

Right now: The season is just starting. The Ganga runs high, so operators sometimes skip the cliff-jump stop. The Beatles Ashram and Rajaji safaris usually stay closed until about mid-November. Long weekends and festival weeks fill hotels, so book early.

How to Reach Rishikesh from Delhi, Dehradun and Haridwar

Rishikesh is approximately 240 km away from Delhi. Recently, the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway, opened on 14 April 2026 and reduced the Delhi to Dehradun travel time to around 2.5 hours and Rishikesh is roughly an hour more from there.  Other cities also have reduced time like Meerut is about 165 km away (3.5–4 hours) and Chandigarh about 200 km (4.5–5 hours). While in Rishikesh you can also explore other places as Haridwar is just 25 km away, and Jolly Grant Airport near Dehradun is about 20 km only.

Rishikesh Itinerary for 3 Days with Friends

Day 1: Jhulas, Ashrams and the Evening Ganga Aarti

• You should leave Delhi by 7 am in your pre-booked one-way cab. If all goes well you will reach by noon, then drop bags, and have lunch by the river.
• You can then walk Ram Jhula to Swarg Ashram and cross Janki Setu. It is an amazing 346 m pedestrian bridge opened in 2020 loved by most tourists and gives beautiful photos.
• You then have to reach Parmarth Niketan 30 to 45 minutes early. The Aarti happens around 5:30-6:30 pm in winter and shifts to 6:00-7:00 pm in summer.

Day 2: Rafting, Cliff Jumping and a Bonfire Night

• Day 2 will be your best day, Rafting in the morning after breakfast is highly recommended. You can select best choise according to you as Shivpuri (16 km) suits first-timers, and Marine Drive (24 km) is better fit for groups.
• In the Afternoon: Neer Garh waterfall should be on your list. Then you can either do bungee at Mohan Chatti, or a long café stop according to your choice.
• Evening Plans: You should definitely go for live music in Tapovan or a bonfire at a Shivpuri camp with your friends.

Day 3: Sunrise, Markets and the Ride Back

• Next you can see Kunjapuri sunrise (leave around 4:30 am, about 25 km) or Neelkanth Mahadev Temple (about 30 km, half a day) based on your interest.
• In the afternoon, you can then browse the Ram Jhula markets, have a late lunch and leave by 2 pm to get away from the hill roads after dark.

River Rafting in Rishikesh 2026: Stretches, Rates and Rules

• Age is generally 14 to 50 and weight roughly 35 to 100 kg. You don’t need to swim.
• Body surfing is no longer allowed on commercial trips. Cliff jumping depends on water level.
• Book a registered operator and ask to see the registration.

Bajrang Setu and Laxman Jhula in 2026

Laxman Jhula has been closed since July 2019. Its replacement, Bajrang Setu, is a glass-floor cable bridge at the same site. As of April 2026 it had not been formally inaugurated, and glass panels had been damaged, so check its status on arrival. Ram Jhula and Janki Setu remain your dependable crossings.

Where to Stay and What to Budget

Tapovan suits cafés and nightlife. Laxman Jhula is walkable and busy. Ram Jhula and Swarg Ashram are calmer. Shivpuri camps (₹1,200–3,000 per person with meals) are best for a bonfire night. Hostels and budget hotels start around ₹800 a night, and mid-range rooms run ₹1,500–3,000.

A lean 3-day trip works out to about ₹6,000–9,000 per person, excluding the cab. Divide your one-way quote by the number of friends for the travel share.

Food, Rules and Packing

Rishikesh is a vegetarian town, and the sale of meat, eggs and alcohol is restricted within municipal limits. Dress modestly at ghats and ashrams, and skip the plastic.

• Layers, since mornings are cool and Kunjapuri is cold before sunrise.
