Bhagalpur is home to India's first dolphin observatory Vikramshila Gangetic Dolphin Sanctuary. Gangetic Dolphin is the National Aquatic Animal of India. Bhagalpur also has a rescue and rehabilitation area for the mythical bird Garuda (Greater adjutant).
