Estimated travel time : 8 hours
Kolkata to Ajodhya Pahar is a very popular route for tourism. West Bengal district, Purulia contains the most beautiful and awful part of Bengal which is Ajodhya. Ajodhya is surrounded by small hills and it is a small plateau. Chhotanagpur plateau is the easternmost part of Ajodhya. It is also the extended part of the Eastern Ghats. For weekends and tourists, the most popular place is Bagmundi.
Ajodhya Hills is a winter wonderland. Your senses become more aware of your surroundings. The weather is beautiful, the sun shines on the trees, bringing in the light like rays of life. Evening brings you the mix of the sounds of the drums (dhamsa and madol), as well as the chirping of the crickets. The moment of peace returns when you look up briefly to see the starry night sky. Ajodhya has many dams available - Khairabera Dam and Murguma Dam as well as Lower Dam - all of which indicate the region's dependence on hydel energy. It was common to follow the trail from Upper Dam to Lower Dam before making a way to Turga Dam or Falls. Marble Lake, located right next to Turga Dam and Falls, is a great stopover. Although it is reminiscent of the Madhya Pradesh wonder, Ajodhyaโs Marble lake is manmade. Bamni Falls is another attraction. Take a deep breath before you try this descent. It crashes over tempered rocks, gurgling in three stages. It was worth the effort to see the falls, even though it required 600 steps each way. Ajodhya is a great spot for birdwatching during the winter months. Pakhi Pahar is an excellent spot for birdwatching, with its resident peacocks.
